Phenakite
We have an obsession with phenakite here at Emily Amey. Its beautiful clarity and sparkle make it an amazing choice for alternative engagement rings!
Phenakite is said to have one of the highest vibrations of any crystal and when put against ice can actually melt it. It has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale and it makes a very unique stone for jewelry.
Phenakite (sometimes called Phenacite) is part of a mineral group known as the beryllium analogue. Phenakites can be pale yellow, pink, as well as completely colorless. Phenakite's rarity, hardness, lack of cleavage and high clarity make it a great option for gem collectors and a wonderful alternative to Diamonds in engagement rings.
While Phenakites are found in Burma, Russia and more recently discovered Madagascar and Nigeria, most of Emily’s stones come from the highly prized Brazilian mines.
