Here at Emily Amey, we understand when it comes to selecting the right size for your finger, it can seem like a confusing task. Afterall, hands come in all different shapes and sizes! The ring sizing process is easy, but you have to pay attention to the details. If you've previously purchased Emily Amey rings and like the fit, simply look up your past order or get in touch with us to confirm your sizing. If this is a first, read on for a few popular methods for ring sizing.
We always suggest visiting us or another trusted local jewelry to get professional sized. This is the most accurate way to get a guaranteed fit!

Your ring should fit your finger comfortably; snug enough so that it will not fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with some resistance. Finger size changes depending on the time of day and the weather. For best results measure your finger size:
*At the end of the day and when your fingers are at their truest regulated temperature. Fingers can either be smaller in the early morning if they are cold, or wider if you tend to swell overnight.
*Measuring your finger size several times during the day will guide towards a more accurate fit.
Temperature is important
Don’t measure when your body temperature is either too cold or too hot. A cold finger shrinks while a hot finger expands causing an inaccurate reading. Exercise, excess salt consumption, alcohol, hormones, etc., lack of sleep and flying on planes generally makes hands swell.
When two sizes seem to fit
If you are between two sizes, go with the larger one.
Don’t use strings
Strings tend to stretch, which can result in the wrong size.
We know the struggle is real! We have lots of tips and modifications to make your dream ring fit.
If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, you may need to go up a half size. For more help with larger knuckle fit, check out our Blog Post for an in-depth guide how to achieve a perfect fit!
Sometimes you gotta be sneaky! One technique is to borrow one of the recipient’s rings (from the correct finger even if it’s the opposite hand) and use the ring measurements from RING SIZE GUIDE to determine its size.
For best results, measure a plain, narrow band. Extra wide band styles tend to fit slightly small. If your borrowed ring has a narrower shank than the one you wish to purchase, you may wish to order a ring a size larger than the normal size worn. Also, large stone rings may cause the shank to lift up when laid on its side on the display, slightly distorting the size measurements.
Please make sure beforehand that the ring you are purchasing can be resized. Rings with specific gemstones or patterns all the way around usually cannot be resized. Most other rings can be resized (see sizing fee) for a fee. Here at Emily Amey Jewelry, we offer one free resize at purchase.
If you are purchasing a wide band, you will be more comfortable moving up a half size from your measurement. Anything over 3mm is recommended to go up half a size.
Choosing the best band width for you is also a very personal choice! For help with determining which band width might look best on your hand, download our ring sizing guide, which includes a Width Guide that you can print out and try on!
If adding to other stacked bands, be sure to add quarter to half a size.
We typically make wedding bands in 2 different styles- Standard and Comfort Fit bands.
The difference between a standard fit ring and a comfort fit ring is the shape of the inside edge. A standard fit ring has a flat, inner surface, which fits snugly against your finger. A comfort fit ring has a beveled, inside edge, which allows it to slip on and off more smoothly.
Comfort Fit bands help the ring slide over the knuckle a little easier in addition to providing less pressure on the finger as a whole.
The most commonly purchased women’s engagement and wedding band range from size 5 to 7. Size 6 is our most popular ring size.
The most commonly purchased men’s ring sizes range from size 8 to 10-1/2. Size 9 is our most popular ring size.
We offer one complimentary resize upon purchase, but if the size you ordered doesn't fit, we offer resizing on most of our rings. For elective repairs such as ring resizing, there is a service charge plus the cost of additional materials and shipping. Please reach to us for a quote.
Typically we can go up or down in size up to 2 sizes without issue. Beyond this might not be possible, or there might be an additional charge.
We do resizing in-house and usual turnaround time is 14 business days. To request a return for a resize repair, Reach out to us HERE.
